About this certification
This complete certification program is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a Skid Steer (both rubber-tired and track loaders). Blending self-paced online learning with an in-person, hands-on evaluation, this course ensures full compliance with current safety regulations and job site standards.
Program Structure:
Part 1: Online Theory Training Before attending the practical session, participants must complete the online module.
Key Topics: Regulatory standards, machine anatomy, stability principles and center of gravity, understanding ROPS/FOPS (Rollover/Falling Object Protective Structures), and safe operating procedures for varying terrain.
Part 2: In-Person Pre-Use Inspection The practical evaluation begins with a thorough equipment check.
Key Skills: Conducting systematic visual walk-arounds, verifying fluid levels, inspecting tracks or tire pressure, checking hydraulic lines/couplers for leaks, and identifying mechanical defects prior to operation.
Part 3: Practical Operation & Evaluation Hands-on assessment under the supervision of a certified instructor.
Key Skills: Safe mounting/dismounting, smooth maneuvering and control, safe load handling (lifting, carrying, and dumping), swapping attachments securely, and navigating site-specific hazards like tight corners, slopes, and pedestrian zones.
Prerequisites & Requirements:
Proof of completion for the Online Theory portion must be presented prior to beginning the practical evaluation.
Required PPE for Practical: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, and high-visibility clothing.
