About this certification
This complete certification program is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a Scissor Lift (Mobile Elevating Work Platform). Blending self-paced online learning with an in-person, hands-on evaluation, this course ensures full compliance with current working-at-heights safety regulations and job site standards.
Program Structure:
Part 1: Online Theory Training Before attending the practical session, participants must complete the online module.
Key Topics: MEWP classifications and regulatory standards, principles of stability, fall hazard awareness, understanding load capacities, and operating limits (including wind and weather restrictions).
Part 2: In-Person Pre-Use Inspection The practical evaluation begins with a thorough equipment check.
Key Skills: Conducting systematic visual inspections of the chassis, wheels, and platform; checking fluid levels or battery charge; and performing mandatory function tests of limit switches, tilt alarms, and emergency stop buttons prior to operation.
Part 3: Practical Operation & Evaluation Hands-on assessment under the supervision of a certified instructor.
Key Skills: Safe platform entry, smooth maneuvering and control operation, safe lifting/lowering procedures, spatial awareness for overhead and ground-level hazards, and executing emergency lowering protocols.
Prerequisites & Requirements:
Proof of completion for the Online Theory portion must be presented prior to beginning the practical evaluation.
Required PPE for Practical: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, and high-visibility clothing. (Bring your fall protection harness and lanyard if required by site policy).
