About this certification
This complete certification program is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate articulating and straight/telescopic Boom Lifts. Blending self-paced online learning with an in-person, hands-on evaluation, this course ensures full compliance with working-at-heights safety regulations, fall protection standards, and job site protocols.
Program Structure:
Part 1: Online Theory Training
Before attending the practical session, participants must complete the online module.
Key Topics: MEWP classifications, fall hazard awareness and the "catapult effect," understanding load capacities and reach charts, and safe operating limits (including wind, weather, and slope restrictions).
Part 2: In-Person Pre-Use Inspection
The practical evaluation begins with a thorough equipment check.
Key Skills: Conducting systematic visual inspections of the tires, chassis, and boom linkages; checking engine fluids/battery charge; and performing mandatory function tests of limit switches, tilt alarms, and auxiliary controls.
Part 3: Practical Operation & Evaluation
Hands-on assessment under the supervision of a certified instructor.
Key Skills: Proper donning and tie-off of fall protection, smooth multidirectional boom control (lift, swing, telescoping), safe driving and steering, spatial awareness for overhead and swing-radius hazards, and executing emergency descent protocols.
Prerequisites & Requirements:
Proof of completion for the Online Theory portion must be presented prior to beginning the practical evaluation.
Required PPE for Practical: CSA-approved safety boots, hard hat, high-visibility clothing, and a CSA-approved full-body harness with lanyard.
Valid government-issued photo ID.
